Wakayama Prefecture’s Initiatives Toward the Realization of eVTOL Operations
Wakayama Prefecture has been focusing on "eVTOLs" (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicles) as a next-generation mode of transportation. In April 2023, the prefecture formulated the "Wakayama Prefecture Roadmap and Action Plan for the Realization of eVTOL Operations" with the goal of making it a reality. Last year, a collaboration agreement was signed among four parties: Nankai Electric Railway Co., Ltd., Chodai Co., Ltd., IHI Corporation, and Wakayama Prefecture. Additionally, the first-ever demonstration flight of an eVTOL was conducted in Kushimoto Town, further advancing these efforts.
